Palo Alto County Park Technician

Description:

Under the direct supervision of the Palo Alto County Conservation Director, the Park Technician will work closely with the Operations Supervisor to carry out all aspects of Palo Alto County Conservation goals.  These aspects include: prairie restoration, wetland management, timber management, prescribed fire, janitorial, park maintenance, and managing PACCB campground.

Major job responsibilities and duties:

Assists in maintenance and management of parks, wildlife areas, and any other assigned areas.  Must be able to work with minimal direct supervision, assist in prescribed fire, work in all-weather environments, operate heavy equipment, identify invasive species and develop management strategies, and work closely with seasonal and full-time employees.

 Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

The Park Technician will need to be able to apply knowledge and common sense to achieve work objectives.  Abilities include operating heavy equipment, power tools, ATV’s, fire equipment, radios, sprayers, and chainsaws.  This position will need to complete projects in a timely manner without compromising quality of work.  Must be able to: train & supervise seasonal staff, communicate clearly with public and staff, lift 50 pounds routinely, work in extreme weather environments, and prioritize workloads.  This position will require an Iowa driver’s license, Iowa Pesticide Applicator license category 2, 5, and 6, CPR, and Wildland Fire Courses S 130 and S 190.
